Eight maids a dancing
Four Maids of honour !
Silk chiffon layered with silk georgette, hand finished with antique covered buttons and hand finished antique sequin trim.
The dresses looked and felt beautiful, perfectly complimenting the bride (in white antique lace) in shades of almond blush and soft stone.
The dresses all featured hand embroidered name tapes in powder blue.

Eltham Palace
.
Shot a very exciting product launch at the divinely decadent Eltham Palace just outside London, Will post pics soon ...
Built by the Courtauld family next to the remains of Eltham Palace, childhood home of Henry VIII. The new wing was completed in 1936, the house stands as a testament to the couple’s choice of interior design and reflects their leisure-filled lifestyle. Influenced by French Art Deco with echoes of Cunard ocean liner style, the rooms reflect the work of various architects and designers employed by the Courtaulds to create contemporary interiors.
A measure of the Courtaulds’ flamboyant nature is reflected in the sleeping quarters allocated to their pet ring-tailed lemur, Mah-Jongg, whose centrally heated cage is still on view in the house !
Even more exotic is Virginia Courtauld’s vaulted bathroom lined with onyx and gold mosaic, complete with gold-plated bath taps and a statue of the goddess Psyche.
Eltham Palace was rescued by English Heritage and is open to the public.

SAVAGE BEAUTY
The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, will celebrate the late Alexander McQueen’s extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death in February 2010.
His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion. The exhibition will feature approximately one hundred ensembles and seventy accessories from Mr. McQueen’s prolific nineteen-year career. Drawn primarily from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, with some pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the “bumster” trouser, the kimono jacket, and the three-point “origami” frock coat will be on view.
The exhibition is organized by Andrew Bolton, curator, with the support of Harold Koda, curator in charge, both of The Costume Institute.
I remember the "razor dress" worn by Erin O'conner, cutting and ripping her skin as she walked, the red dress took us hours and hours to dye each slide to the prefect red. I never heard anybody complain, from the models, students, set builders, pattern cutters etc ... we all felt very privilleged to be part of such a creative team, and very aware we were making history and breaking boundries with regard to what was happening in the fashion world.
I was lucky enough to work with Lee Mcqueen and Katy England from 1999 - 2001, it will bring back very fond memories seeing some of the amazing show pieces in such a grand setting.
The exhibition will run from May 4th to July 31st.

The lace on the bride's dress details a rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock, and was hand-applied by the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace.
The bridal train measures 2m 70cm, and along with the lace, all other fabrics used in the creation of the dress were sourced from and supplied by British companies.
The lace motifs were pinned, "framed up" and applied with stab stitching every 2mm to 3mm around each lace motif.
Workers washed their hands every 30 minutes to keep the lace and threads pristine, and the needles were renewed every three hours, to keep them sharp and clean.
The dress is a perfect example of the quality and craftsmanship that is available in the UK, I hope I get a chance to see it up close ?
Well done to Sarah Burton and all her little mice at Mcqueen !

Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris
I was completely intrigued by the tender sentiment of the Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris auction catalogue.
I guess it has kind of inspired me to start this blog?
I love the thought of documenting my life, not because it’s important but because it stops me from forgetting about cool or inspiring things I come across?
